Hsien Feng Coins - Fakes

Dynasty: Ch'ing (1644 - 1911 a.d.)
Emperor: Wen Tsung (1851-1861 a.d.)
Reign Title: Hsien Feng (1851-1861 a.d.)

Fake: A fake is a coin which is made to imitate an existing coin, normally of a scarce or rare nature. This can be done by casting a copy of an original coin. The result is usually of very poor quality. A fake can also be made by altering an existing coin, usually a common piece, to make it look like a rare coin.

Do not confuse fakes with Charms or Fantasies. These are coins that were never intended to be circulated as cash.

Rarity:
Ref.:

This coin is an original 50 Cash coin that has been altered at some point to look like a 30 Cash coin. There is in fact no such thing as a 30 Cash coin. Perhaps this was done to fool a naive coin collector.

Parts of the Wu (5)character have been removed to make it look like San (3).

Obv.: Hsien Feng Chung Pao
Rev.: Top: Wu - "5"
Bottom: Shih - "10"
Right: Manchu Fu - Fuchou, Fukien Province
Left: Manchu Boo - coin
Also four characters on the rim
Rarity:
Ref.:

This coin is a fake 50 Cash coin. It is made of a much brighter brassy metal than the original and is of a much lower quality. The sand used to cast this coin must be coarser than the sand used by official mints as the casting is quite rough.
